With a dismal backdrop of rain falling outside and the realisation that we had just been relegated from Division One of the Championship, 84 members and guests  gathered to dine and listen to the Surrey President Richard Stilgoe, who had no trouble in lifting the spirits of the audience which included the Middlesex Chief Executive, Vinny Codrington, in his own inimitable way.
